The concept is neat, but actually not new, and the execution is pretty basic. You create units in the menu, 4 of each type (there are 4 types as well, infantry, light and heavy vehicles, and air), then you can pick a "superweapon" and an HQ bonus. You can also design turrets but there's not a lot of options there. That's it.The game mechanics follow a base building progression system, refinery --> Power plant --> infantry or light vehicle factory --> com array --> air or heavy vehicle factory --> superweapon (after you have built one of every factory). This is static and cannot change, and you have to build within a certain range of your other buildings, with no option other than map buildings to expand. So you're stuck making lines of power plants to reach new resource areas or just let the harvesters drive the distance. Also, you can only build one building at a time, one turret at a time, and one unit of each type at time. So you can build a factory while building a turret, but that's it. You can build one infantry, light, heavy, and air unit at the same time, but that's it. More factories only speed of the build time, and even that is limited to three total factories of each type.Combat and AI are also basic, most weapons can fire on the move so the AI doesn't need to be too smart, but AI pathing has issues. The game is just very basic and the developers hid their bad enemy AI by simply throwing more enemy AI players at you in the campaign. Its you versus 3 enemy and their superweapon happy boss unit. Oh, this happens at about mission 5, so you won't have a lot of interesting tech or even much experience yet to see through this difficulty spike. And the difficulty is just lazy design. The enemy AI can build faster than you due to micro management, and due to the artificial limit of building one unit of each type at a time, the multiple AI essentially can outpace your building with ease. Beatable, but the artificial difficulty feels cheap.TLDR; give it a pass. There are other, complete games out there that might be date graphically but are much better. Try Earth 2150 Trilogy here on steam.. I like C&C I like 8bit Invaders so just made sense to get a game that had the best of both worlds! for a game thats only 900mb and only cost me $8 totally worth it!. you will never get past the 5th mission of the campaign. you will be stuck there forever even on the easiest difficulty. A total bummer. saw some videos and read some very early reviews back in the day, looked promising and as such i put it on my long wishlist and only now bought it at a discount.... the game visually is pretty interesting and easy to read, the gameplay however did not meet my expectations and on top of that it is clearly unfinished, there are a few caveats in design i do not like as well as quite a few balancing flaws and a lot of repetitiveness that while in a way similar to other rts games (build base destroy opponent, capture zones and resources) it feels somehow boring and unrewarding in this game...additionally after reading some steam discussion topics it seems to be completely abandoned by the developers in a unacceptable state, a shame really as it shows a lot of potential, there's just too many flaws to properly enjoy it so i cannot recommend it, and as such i refunded my purchase.i'd say try openRA-dune 2000 or one of the other OpenRA titles for free instead of this, or buy earth 2150-lost souls for a similar but imho better experience in terms of unit customization and ai even if dated.... The idea of creating you're own units is a great one, it's been done before in Warzone 2100 and was done better. The game is unfinished and it's a horde type RTS, meaning horde all the units you can together and throw them at you're enemy. I do not recommend Forged Battalion, It needs a lot of work.. Couldn't get the game to save more than one 'unique' unit to my army so I was stuck with highly unoptimized units against a more powerful AI. BOOOOOORING. This game had so much potential but is unfortunately abandonware.
